Nani calls him my Careful One. He says very little — and then, at the end, he says the thing that stops everybody.
If you have a child who worries at stories, these are the ones to read. Dev worries too, out loud, and Nani answers him every time before the story goes on.
He says very little through most of a story, but his hands tell you what he’s thinking — sleeves pulled over them, or reaching quietly for Nani’s hand. When he finally does speak, it tends to be one plain sentence delivered low enough that everyone leans in to hear it.

Dev says nothing, but his hands come loose from his sleeves, and he smiles his small, private smile.
The Scar That Wasn’t a Sword · ages 6–8
Dev says, quietly, that he’d still rather be the potter than the one who never got found out.
Buried Between Friends · ages 9–12
Dev says, low enough that everyone has to lean in: “I think the father knew, before he ever climbed in.”
